New Hope East Africa: Improving Educational Outcomes
Join us in our mission to connect parents with the school system and empower children in the Congolese community of Chapel Hill and Durham.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Congolese families.
Our Work
01
Support for Parents
We connect parents with the school system to keep them informed and meaningfully engaged in the education of their children.
02
Information for Parents
The school experience in the US is very different from what refugee families have experienced in East Africa. We provide information through group sessions and individual support to families so they can familiarize themselves with the US school system and how it works.
03
Mutual Support and Mentorship
We connect recently-arrived refugees with Congolese families who have been in the US for a longer time so that newcomer families can receive support and mentorship from their own community.
04
Tutoring
Our mentors provide tutoring support and homework assistance to recently arrived students to help their academic development.
06
Economic Support
We offer assistance to newly arrived Congolese families in obtaining employment, ensuring their self-sufficiency and economic development.
05
Extracurricular Access
Recently arrived families experience significant difficulties in enrolling their children in extracurriculars and taking advantage of all that Chapel Hill and Durham schools have to offer. Through our mentorship program, we ensure that all children can navigate the enrollment process.
